Earliest meeting: Monday 20th July 1835 Final meeting: Sunday 16th August 1840 The town and port of Blyth is in the south east of Northumberland and lies to the south of the River Blyth. It is located about 21 kilometres from Newcastle Upon Tyne and was an important ship building and lining area. It held a 2 day meeting on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st July 1835 when the opening Silver Cup was won by Mr Fawcus’s Locksley defeating Cornet and Bonny Pet Lad. The Blyth Stakes went to Wallsend and the Silver Salver to Mr Robertson’s Manager. The principal race on day 2 was the Delaval Stakes which went to Wallsend; the Seaton Delaval Stakes remains an important race today at Newcastle. Meetings continued for just 5 more years until a final card was staged on Sunday 16th August 1840.
